The investment opportunities and economic potential in the tourism and agriculture (Agritourism) sectors of Iran were introduced to Spain’s Ambassador to Iran Eduardo Lopez Busquets in a meeting.
The European chief diplomat started the meeting by indicating Spain’s position in tourism and agriculture, especially agritourism and mentioned the 45-year-old tourism industry of this country is one of the most important key sectors of the economy.
More than 10,000 Spanish tourists visit Iran annually and half of them are between 50 to 60 years old. The ancient history and historical sites of Iran never stop to amaze these travelers, despite the fact that they have seen almost every corner of the world. Most of them can speak English easily and would talk about their travel to Iran when they return home,” he mentioned.
“Historical places, Magnificent culture, Ski resorts, delicious foods, the beauties of its nature and the UNESCO heritage sites are significant features of Iran, which should be promoted to attract more European tourists.”
The ambassador said building links between travel agencies in Iran and Spain would be a positive approach toward attracting more tourism industry.
Busquets noted that agritourism, any agriculture-based operation or activity that brings visitors to a farm or ranch, is of utmost importance in Spain and the country is constantly making advances in this economic sector.
Chairman of Tourism Commission of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA), said Iran hosts millions of tourists annually and it is increasing every year.
“Iran provides quality services for travelers, yet it is one of the most attractive and also cheapest tourist destinations in the world,” he added.
Caretaker of Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Directorate, said all the Iranian province has unique potentials in historical, natural, rural and agricultural tourism, but most European tours traveling prefer to visit Shiraz, Yazd, and Isfahan.
“We are all trying to introduce the attractions of other provinces of Iran in a trip exclusively for travel agents [FAM trip],” he said.
FAM is a free (or very low cost) travel for consultants or travel agents provided by a special airline or travel operator for promoting their services.
Noting that there is no high tariffs or restriction for exporting packaged and packed saffron to Spain, Iranian factories and companies need to benefit from the experience of Spain as a great major export destination with a desirable business environment.
“10 Iranian retailers have established their saffron companies in Spain and some of them are working with Spanish partners,” he added.
