Based on Varzaneh City
Tucked away on the eastern edge of Isfahan Province, Varzaneh is a unique desert town where tradition, history, and natural beauty meet.
Famous for its striking white sand dunes and rich cultural heritage, Varzaneh offers travelers a peaceful yet unforgettable desert experience.
Varzaneh lies approximately 105 kilometers southeast of Isfahan, on the road to Yazd. The town is the gateway to the Varzaneh Desert, known for its fine, bright sand, a rare sight in Iran’s mostly golden-hued deserts.
Close to the Gavkhouni Wetland and the dry riverbed of the Zayandeh Rud, Varzaneh’s location provides both desert landscapes and fascinating ecological contrast.
The people of Varzaneh are renowned for their hospitality and deeply rooted customs. What sets the town apart is the traditional white chador worn by many local women a symbol of purity and simplicity, contrasting with the black chador seen in other parts of Iran.
Traditional activities like ox-well irrigation (Gav Chah) and carpet weaving are still practiced here.
In some parts of the town, you can even watch locals baking bread in clay ovens or hear stories of Zoroastrian heritage, which once played a vital role in the region’s culture.
The best time to visit Varzaneh is from October to April, when daytime temperatures are pleasant and nights are ideal for desert stargazing.
Summers can be extremely hot, with daytime temperatures soaring above 40°C (104°F), so most tours avoid the peak summer months.
Getting There: Varzaneh is accessible by car from Isfahan (2-hour drive). Most desert tours offer pickup from the city.
What to Pack: Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, layers for chilly nights, and comfortable walking shoes.
Dress Code: Modest clothing is expected, but Varzaneh is used to tourists and is very welcoming.
Stay Overnight: For the full experience, consider staying in an eco-lodge or desert camp and enjoy a traditional Persian dinner under the stars.
Varzaneh desert tour is a one-day tour designed for travelers who want to see a beautiful desert landscape and experience the silence under a sky full of stars.
On this trip, we get to our campsite by riding camels for one hour through the sandhills and come back in the morning by riding a quad with an experienced quad driver.
Your guide on this tour is also an astronomer and gives you interesting information about stars and constellations at night.

We had a great time! Vahid was a friendly guide. He made sure we were comfortable at all times, and even gave us tips for the rest of our journey in Iran, which turned out to be good advice! Plus, he is a good photographer and took some great photos of us in our desert paradise. Would definitely recommend Letsvisitpersia tour company, and would request Vahid to be our guide again in a heartbeat.
My girlfriend and I visited Varzaneh City and its beautiful desert through Letsvisitpersia Travel services. Both experiences were unforgettable. The overall trip was great with everything taking place as expected. Super recommended if you have an adventurous spirit. If not, do it anyway. It’s totally worth it.
